Mission of the Month

Each month, the NUMC Outreach Team chooses an organization or initiative to support through monetary donations collected weekly. We call this our Mission of the Month. At times, you may hear these missions referred to as the “Advance Specials,” which is the historical term in our church. We use them interchangeably, so whichever term you use will be understood.

GET INVOLVED

Through the Mission of the Month, our Outreach Team highlights and partners with ministries locally, nationally, and internationally to strengthen their work growing God’s kingdom. Our partnerships gained in 2023 were Lahaina UMC in Maui, Family Promise of Bucks County, The Syrian American Medical Association, A Woman’s Place, the Wrightstown Food Pantry, and much more.

October Mission of the Month:

The Mission of the Month for October is Feed the Children’s ministry in Uganda.

Volunteers are working with churches there to feed about 80,000 children. They are also teaching the girls sewing and the boys carpentry skills.

Uganda lacks important resources such as sanitation, access to electricity, health, education, and nutrition. Families in Uganda are often large and highly likely to fall below the poverty line. Poor health also impacts a family’s ability to work, causing poverty to be passed down through generations.

Uganda has one of the youngest and most rapidly growing populations in the world, with 48% of the population under the age of 15. Currently Uganda is taking in refugees fleeing wars in its bordering neighbors of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.

If you would like to help feed the children of Uganda, please use one of the blue Advance offering envelopes in the pews and place it in the offering plate. You can also send a check to Newtown UMC, 35 Liberty Street, Newtown, PA 18940. Please mark your check “Advance for October.”
