Mission of the Month

Each month, the NUMC Outreach Team chooses an organization or initiative to support through monetary donations collected weekly. We call this our Mission of the Month. At times, you may hear these missions referred to as the “Advance Specials,” which is the historical term in our church. We use them interchangeably, so whichever term you use will be understood.

GET INVOLVED

Through the Mission of the Month, our Outreach Team highlights and partners with ministries locally, nationally, and internationally to strengthen their work growing God’s kingdom. Our partnerships gained in 2023 were Lahaina UMC in Maui, Family Promise of Bucks County, The Syrian American Medical Association, A Woman’s Place, the Wrightstown Food Pantry, and much more.

April Mission of the Month:

The Mission of the Month (Advance) for April is the State of Texas Agricultural Relief Fund.

Wildfires starting in late February in the panhandle of Texas combined to form the largest wildfire in US history. The governor of Texas has declared a state of emergency in this primarily agricultural area. Over 2000 miles, or one million acres,  burned. resulting in some fatalities. Over 500 houses and barns were destroyed, and 16 schools had to close because of damage. About 9000 cattle were lost, and 20 miles of power lines are down.

Our offering this month will help farmers and ranchers affected by the fire. It will help provide food and clothing for families who have lost their homes and barns, and hay and feed for the cattle that survived. It will help provide lunches to children who are not able to attend school in their regular buildings. And it will help farmers and ranchers restore their operations.

If you would like to help the farmers and ranchers in Texas, you can use the blue envelopes located in the pews in the Sanctuary. You can also send a check to Newtown United Methodist Church, 35 Liberty Street, Newtown, PA 18940. Please mark your check “Advance for April.”
